Pro Bono
McGuireWoods Consulting – McGuireWoods was among the first to volunteer its services and expertise to help secure state funding for Tangier’s new clinic. Their dedication has been exemplary, beginning with their leadership in working with the General Assembly and the Governor’s office to ensure that state funding would be directed to the health clinic. That effort culminated in a $300,000 state appropriation from the 2007 General Assembly. McGuireWoods's efforts did not end there—they helped us identify and apply for private grants, and are linking us with other agencies and individuals who want to help. We extend our sincere thanks to Chairman Richard Cullen; Mark Bowles, a McGuireWoods partner and executive vice president of McGuireWoods Consulting; Eric Finkbeiner, director of McGuireWoods Consulting's Virginia Government Relations Team; and Grace Turner, former assistant vice president of Government Relations.
Deborah Kelly is a journalist and media consultant with 18 years of daily newspaper experience, including four years as lead medical writer for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. She now writes primarily for the custom publishing divisions of Time Inc. and American Express. She’s been part of the Tangier clinic quest since its earliest days, and was instrumental in bringing some key players on board, including McGuireWoods Consulting and our web designer.
Steve Bryant is a native Virginian and freelance writer living in New York who initially launched our web site. He is a columnist for the Hollywood Reporter and has written for The New York Daily News, the Online Journalism Review, Virginia Living and other publications.
William Darwin Prillaman is an architect who began private practice in Charlottesville in 1980, and has been practicing in Irvington since 1987. One trip to the island convinced him that the deplorable conditions of the current health facility should be remedied immediately. He is inspired by the long-time efforts of Dr. Nichols and of Jimmie Carter in spearheading the campaign for a new clinic. He understands the seriousness of the Tangier health situation and has volunteered his design services to expedite the building project. His work in the Bahama Islands has provided the background for understanding the logistical and construction difficulties found on island projects and he is bringing that expertise to Tangier.
B.H.B. Hubbard, III, Esquire is a Member of the Board. Mr. Hubbard has practiced law for more than 30 years. He is a partner at Hubbard, Terry & Kopcsak in Irvington, Virginia. A native of White Stone, he is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rappahannock General Hospital. A tireless supporter of his community, he is providing pro-bono legal services to the Tangier Island Health Foundation including the original draft and filing of our Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws and 501(c)(3) designation application.
We are sincerely grateful for the interest and support of all those who are dedicating time and thought to this effort.
